Pat on the Back for Us
Well aware this post is late - and well aware you're all aware of its content - but this should be said "officially".  Congratulations to all Omniscient members on their performance in Fallen Empire: Legions, both individually and as a team.  Not only are we dominant in deathmatch (e-reps aside, we've taken and have held the TDM ladder since its inception), but we managed - without the 6-month experience cushion of our competition - to take second spot in the BFCL CTF season.  Highlights included: taking the then thought-to-be top CTF team to task, losing the first map only 8-10 and tying the second (impressive given that we'd played CTF together only twice prior); obtaining very convincing wins with inventive strategies; and comfortably defeating ZETA in what was likely our most enjoyable match.  With season's end, we showed ourselves to be the top North American CTF team, losing out to Europe's Team Hotswap (Null).

As an aside, a personal thanks to our roster for not cheating.  Unlike most illegal cheats/bugs, hotswapping was available to all; Eve's apple hung ripe for the picking (hawt), yet we distinguished ourselves as one or two teams (the other being ZETA) to play properly.  Zombie Jeebus would be proud.

Most telling though has been how well our members have meshed.  As has happened with previous Omniscient teams, we've become companions and friends, not mere teammates.  It's this quality which differentiates Omniscient from other online teams (also our awesomeness), and it's this quality which makes our endeavors worthwhile.  In the long run you'll not care about online ego-tripping (nor will anyone else) - only about the people and shared experiences which have made the time worthwhile.

With our new foundations set, we're destined for further success, regardless of our chosen arena.  Being part of a top-tier team - one composed of friends - is a rare treat; really, it's something a lot of us take for granted.  So on that note, thank you.

Time 4 More...
As suspected, the next installment has been released in good time.

Presenting some more Tifa action in: Dead Fantasy V

W.O.G. Tunes.
Not exactly breaking news, but it was news to me, so it might have passed some of you fine people by to:

"The soundtrack to 2D Boy's award-winning World of Goo is now available for download from Kyle's site. The entire 85MB collection contains twenty-seven tracks in total, and comes up to a full forty-nine minutes in length."

It has some very memorable tracks, each packed full of character; well worth a listen!

You can grab it free HERE.

Dead Fantasy III & IV
Great news for anybody who has been following the work of Monty Oum; full versions of Dead Fantasy III & IV have recently been released in quick succession.

Without mentioning any spoilers, the recent episodes have taken a darker turn and no longer have the light hearted/fun sparring feel the first 2 movies shared - Things just got a whole lot more 'life or death'.

You can stream or download them here:

Dead Fantasy III

Dead Fantasy IV

If you have been living under a rock and somehow missed the first 2 episodes, you can check them out here:

Dead Fantasy I

Dead Fantasy II

Enjoy!

Legions TDM Ladder LIVE!
It's been a long time coming but we've finally a Legions TDM ladder, courtesy of BFCL. We will be using a ladder rather than a league format, allowing for (hopefully) easier match scheduling and a more relaxed atmosphere.

This ladder is recommended for the following types of players and teams:

-Those who enjoy TDM as a game type, i.e., the required skill, and luck's miniscule role
-Those wishing to improve theirs and their team's DM skills and coordination
-Those who would enjoy more Legions matches
-Those currently intimidated by CTF play and its intricacies
-Those who wish to play legions competitively, but aren't sure where to begin
-Those who missed the BFCL CTF cutoff date
-Those who believe TDM to be shallow and skilless
-Those who simply enjoy shooting people

Registration Info:

You'll have to sign up separately for BFCL's ladder section - your Legions league registration won't cut it (yes, I'm well aware it's a pain). The ladder section may be reached here: http://www.bfcl.info/ladder/ladders.php

Rules:

The full ruleset may be reached through the main ladder section (see above)
Briefly:

- 6 v 6 Competition: greater accessibility for smaller teams while allowing for larger maps

- 2 Maps per match, Kill Limit of 100*, no Time Limit: maps will be chosen by the teams, one each (duh)
*Note:  To prevent team killing (i.e., subverting your opponents' points), overall deaths will determine the winner (i.e., the team with fewer deaths is the victor . . . again, duh)

- Cumulative Scoring (i.e., you're essentially playing to 200 kills)

-Class Restrictions: Maximum of 1 sentinel and 1 sniper per team; all other classes are unrestricted**
**Note: Done to restrict turtling

Goals:

With this ladder we hope to encourage match play, increases in individual and team DM skill, and increased team communication. While the ladder will have its share of highly-skilled TDM teams, we also wish to provide a less daunting environment for those teams newly-formed. As such, a relaxed approach will be taken toward match scheduling. For example, should two teams have online the requisite six players, they may opt to play a TDM ladder match, even without prior negotiation. (Both captains would have to report match results).

So that's it - I encourage all current clans to sign up. And hey, if you want to gather five friends and start a new team, that's great too. Good luck, and for the love of Legions, let's try to have some fun.

If you have any comments or suggestions please feel free to post them on IA's official forums HERE.

Onlive - High End Games On Low End Machines, Macs and TVs.
I'm not sure if any of you would have heard of OnLive yet. As of today it was news to me. It's designed to allow you to run the latest high end games on your TV or entry level PC via your broadband connection. From what I have gathered the basic idea is the games themselves run remotely on cutting edge machines, user input is sent to these machines via your broadband connection, and a live HD stream of the game footage is piped back to you. I'm not sure it's quite that simple, he does talk about the servers sending small parts of the game to you machine, which presumably is then supplemented by the remote 'uber' PC's doing the vast majority of the work.

The obvious worry with such a system is always going to be latency; they talk about playing @ 1280x720 - 60fps on a 5MB connection. I'm very curious as to how this is dealt with, I know that if I where to attempt a video stream at that resolution (and frame-rate) while playing online I would have a solid 2k+ ping, quickly rendering any given game unplayable.

I must confess, watching the video for the first time did have me checking the date, sure enough, it was still March.

Will it take off? Time will tell. At the very least it's an intriguing concept.

You can check out video 1: HERE and 2HERE or post your thoughts on our forum HERE.

CADL4D
Not the newest strip, it must have passed me by the first time around, but after last nights Left 4 Dead session I found this particularly amusing:

UT3 For Free (This weekend)
In an effort to revive UT3's community and atone for their own screw ups, Epic has released the UT3 2.0 patch and Titan pack. The full game is available on steam and will be free to play this weekend. People can then purchase the game for the reduced price of $11.99 until March 15th.

I'd wholeheartedly suggest grabbing this game, even - perhaps especially - if you've not yet played an Unreal Tourny. The required skill puts Legions's floaty, gunner pounding splash-fest to shame. While you're at it, give Unreal 2 XMP a download (link on the left).

Legions "vets", I dare you.
